Jamaica
The island that gave the world a rhythm.
The culture
Why we bridge here
Jamaica is small and enormous at once: reggae, dancehall, patois, jerk cooking and a mountain range that grows some of the best coffee on earth. Beyond the resorts is a country of hillside farming, Maroon history and church music so good it stops traffic.
The Maroons, who escaped slavery and held their own territory, are still an organised community here, and the Rastafari movement began on this island. Your host will take you past the beach version of Jamaica into the parts that travel brochures never reach.
