The culture
Why we bridge here
Kampala spreads across seven hills above Lake Victoria, a green capital where the royal history of the Buganda kingdom is still present in daily life. It is also, quietly, one of the best cities in Africa to eat.
Buganda is a kingdom with its own parliament and a kabaka, and his palace still sits on Kasubi hill beside a UNESCO-listed royal tomb. Ugandans are famously over-polite, Luganda is full of proverbs, and a 'rolex' (an egg chapati roll) is breakfast, lunch and a national institution.
